Brief History: In 1863 Coonoor was separated from Wellington, with Kotagiri and Metupalayam as its substations. Fr. De Gelis took charge of the new parish. He bought a beautiful site on which the present church stands. A portion of the land named Rocklands was later sold to the Government for the construction of the Lawley Hospital. In 1867 he constructed the church. Fr. Bechu and Fr. Petit extended the two wings of the church and Fr. Vieillard built the two beautiful spires in 1910-1911.
