Brief History: Sacred Heart Church was constructed in 1897 by Rev. Fr. Foubert. After the First World War Rev. Fr. Belylsi constructed the bell towers. When Ootacamund was raised to a separate diocese in its own right on 03-07-1955 Sacred Heart Church became the diocesan Cathedral. During the time of Rev. Fr. Ambrose, in 1987 while repairing the roofs of the Cathedral which were in a dilapidated condition, the roof of the sanctuary gave in and came tumbling down. Because of this mishap it underwent a major renovation in 1989 and the consecration of the renovated Cathedral took place on July 7th, 1989.
